Culimer opens processing plant and -65ºC cold storage in Dubai

Seafood supplier Culimer is expanding business in the Middle East by opening its own seafood processing plant and -65ºC cold storage in Dubai. The facility, called Royal Culimer Seafood Processing LLC, is the most sustainable seafood processing plant of the Middle East by using a specially designed biofilter that recycles 70% of its processing water. The super frozen cold storage will be the largest -65ºC cold store of the Middle East and is being built to expand the sashimi grade super frozen tuna capacity in the region.

Worldwide seafood supplier Culimer’s sales office Royal Culimer is expanding business in the Middle East by opening its own seafood processing plant and -65ºC cold storage in Dubai. The facility, called Royal Culimer Seafood Processing LLC, is equipped with the most sustainable processing equipment of the Middle East. As seafood processing plants generally have a reputation because of their environmental impact, Royal Culimer decided to use solar energy to heat water while a specially designed biofilter allows the company to recycle 70% of its processing water, using virtually no external power. Furthermore, the plant is equipped with state of the art blast freezers and packing machines.

Royal Culimer Seafood Processing LLC also built the first 150 metric tons -65ºC cold store of the Middle East, from which sashimi grade super frozen tuna is going to be delivered to most retailers and high-end restaurants in the region. “The unique combination of the processing plant and super frozen cold store allows us to supply any kind of fresh tuna product to our retail partners and top chefs.” says Jeroen Tollenaar, managing director of Royal Culimer.  

Fully licensed
The processing plant is an FDA approved facility and will soon receive its ISO22000. Royal Culimer has also applied for a Russian factory code as well as an EU code.
