“Marine turtle bycatch and longline Observer Programme” project: Towards more sustainable tuna fisheries in Vietnam

In 2008 IbroMar started a 3 year project for the fishing and manufacturing of sustainable Tuna in Vietnam under the PSOM program funded by the Dutch Government. Here we will regularly update you on the different aspects of this project.

In December 2008 first training sessions took place in Vietnam where local fishermen were trained on the use of the circle hooks developed by the WWF. The use of these hooks will not only reduce marine turtle bycatch but also improve the overall quality of caught tuna.
